Ivan Goh, the son of Goh Teck Phuan grew up in the sporting fraternity and knew many of the sportsmen and sportswomen that his father had coached or mentored. As a young boy, he was often awed by the icons of Singapore athletics such as Chan Onn Leng, Tan Eng Yoon, Maurice Nicholas, Low Sin Chock, Mani Jegathesan, C. Kunalan and many others who would attend meetings and social gatherings at the family home. With his father’s sports photographs and documents, the help of his father’s associates as sponsors and advisors and a team of writers led by Chua Chong Jin who shared his goal, he published "Lasting Strides". This was a tribute to his father, a man who loved athletics passionately and to all athletes, officials and the common man for their passion and devotion to the sport. The excess funds over the publication cost amounting to $20,000 was given to Swift Athletes Association which his father co founded in 1947 to manage for athletes in need of financial assistance. Swift has named the Annual Cross Country run in his father's name.
